As the first light spills over the rooftops, the old market square slowly wakes. The air, cool and damp, carries the warm smell of fresh bread and roasted coffee. Near the fountain, a stallholder who has risen before dawn stacks oranges into bright, glowing pyramids.
Further along, ribbons of steam rise from copper pots, curling like grey silk into the pale sky. Voices call out across the stalls, cheerful and hoarse, while pigeons clatter overhead. The cobblestones, still wet from the night, gleam softly beneath the traders’ feet.
By the far wall, an old woman sells lavender, her weathered hands moving as gently as falling leaves. Slowly, the square fills with colour, noise and life. Standing there, breathing it all in, you feel as though the whole town is quietly coming home.
