ארבעה סוגי תנאי, כל אחד עם צורה ומשמעות משלו. אפס (אמת כללית): If + present, present (If you heat ice, it melts). ראשון (עתיד אמיתי/אפשרי): If + present, will + base (If it rains, we will stay home). שני (הווה דמיוני): If + past simple, would + base (If I won the lottery, I would travel; עם be - were לכל הגופים). שלישי (עבר לא אמיתי / חרטה): If + past perfect, would have + V3 (If she had studied, she would have passed). כלל קבוע: אין will/would אחרי if; פיסוק - if פותח → פסיק.
